Indie solo developer Pebbledust Games and the whole team at Pretty Soon are excited to announce that Blossom: The Seed of Life has finally released and is available to play on Steam and GOG!
Set on the barren surface of Mars, the first game by Pebbledust Games puts you in control of Blossom, a small but capable robot built to survive where humans cannot. Something went wrong with your mission, however, and you now find yourself stranded on the surface – with little power left and no memories of how you got there.
This is where your adventure begins. Gather Mars’ resources, refine materials and use them to build tools, machines and structures. Manage your energy well to remain operational in the harsh martian environment and unlock new blueprints and technologies that will allow you to survive. Leverage Blossom’s modular, mobile base-building to expand your base and build vehicles, convoys, and even hover crafts to explore the red planet.
Then, turn the planet itself into a verdant oasis! Manipulate Mars’ atmosphere to create ice, then melt it into water to turn the martian dust into soil. Help plants grow by providing nutrients, let trees generate oxygen and create biomes that can host unique flora and fauna. Traverse Mars on foot or use the tech you researched to create rovers, convoys, and even aerial vehicles. Explore every corner of the planet to unlock additional treasures, or simply sit back as you watch the once lifeless rock slowly turn into a thriving ecosystem.
Blossom resonated well with players and content creators before release during the last Steam Next Fest, gaining over 15,000 new wishlists and over 18,000 downloads of the demo throughout the event. The full game further improves on this formula, with over 30 hours of content – including evolving flora and fauna and aerial exploration.
“When I started working on Blossom, I kept thinking about the kinds of games I grew up with — the ones that didn’t constantly hold your hand. You had to pay attention, experiment, and figure things out on your own. I wanted that same feeling of discovery, but without the pressure or punishment that often comes with survival games,” says Thorin, the solo developer and creator of Blossom.
Story and character were also an important part of the design: “I didn’t want it to be just a systems-driven game. I love stories like Wall-E or The Martian, where you root for a single character taking on the impossible. That’s where Blossom’s little robot comes from — a tiny hero trying to bring life back to a dead planet.”
