Detective game The Ratline launches today on Steam

Independent studio Owlskip Games today releases The Ratline, a narrative deduction game about uncovering Nazi fugitives who escaped justice after World War II. The game launches today at 5pm GMT / 6pm CET / 1pm ET / 10am PDT on Steam for Mac and PC.

To mark the release, Owlskip Games has unveiled a new launch trailer showcasing the investigative methods players will use to piece together hidden identities and expose fugitives connected to the escape network known as The Ratline.

Taking place in 1971, the game opens with the murder of a Catholic priest in Budapest and the emergence of a secret list naming Nazi war criminals who vanished after the war. Players take on the role of Saul Perlman, a struggling private detective tasked with identifying these fugitives before they disappear for good.

In the same vein as deduction games such as Return of the Obra Dinn, The Case of the Golden Idol, The Roottrees Are Dead, and Type Help, The Ratline asks players to solve cases through observation and reasoning rather than guided objectives. Clues are uncovered through careful examination of documents, photographs, coded communications, and phone conversations, requiring players to draw connections between fragments of evidence and reconstruct hidden identities.

The Ratline is available today on Steam for Mac and PC.
