Are you trying to find an all-new casual match 3 game? Well, you will have to keep looking because Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion is not what you are looking for. In this match 3 title, you will not just casually match the same mana, but you are going to have to carefully, tactically approach each move you make. It is a role-playing dungeon-crawling game where rooms are randomly generated each time you encounter them. Sure, match 3 gameplay will be your main weapon, but you are going to have to think out every next move so you successfully clear the room while taking the least damage you can. Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion was released for the PlayStation consoles on the 24th of July 2025, and was available on Steam a week earlier.

Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion is a tactical turn-based roguelike game by Starstruck Games in which you and your party will come looking for the fabled Nekonomicon in a mysterious castle. One of your members, Nekomancer, was caught missing after trying to retrieve the Nekonomicon by herself. Another party member rushed to her rescue, but he did not return either. Now it is up to you, the Bungeoneer, to search for both of your friends. On your quest, there will be perilous monsters confronting you, and you can attack them by walking into them or by matching the mana next to them. When you defeat your enemies, the room will clear, and you will gather all mana within your mana range. Each room you clear gives you three power-up points, plus one point for each unactivated enemy portal. When you reach eighteen points, you can increase your attributes. Oh, and Boss rooms give you eighteen points, while Mini Boss rooms give you nine points. After failing your session, you will once again revive outside the castle from where you will, once again, embark into battle. And again and again and again! The game is really addictive and awakens the “just one more run” mentality in its players.

As mentioned, Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion is a fusion of a turn-based roguelike role-playing game with a match 3 grid layout and gameplay. You will need to align three, four or five of the same mana to use it in your encounters with the baddies. You will also need to watch the patterns of how the extra-dimensional creatures move in each turn you make. And finally, you will need to plan your attack near them with a physical melee strike, or far by bursting your elemental magic when fusing the same mana. The castle you will try to overrun is on high alert, and every one of its rooms is on lockdown. Along with matching the mana, you will also, in some rooms, need to uncover sigils on the floor, step on raised panels, and blast crystals with mana in other rooms. All these objectives will need to be accomplished to successfully clear any given room you will find yourself in.

Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion altogether features three playable characters with unique skills and play-styles. The game has over a hundred spells and items available that will change the way you handle your upcoming challenges. Most of them will boost your stats or elemental damage, while some will contain spells for you to cast. In total, there are more than twenty bosses from different elemental realms to beat, and each of them has its own attack patterns and weaknesses. The game also has nice character animations and a good art style and is very easy to play, as its learning curve is not too complicated. On the other hand, it will be very hard to master as it will put you in complicated situations you will need to get your ass out of with as little damage to your character as possible.

I do recommend playing Roguematch: The Extraplanar Invasion to all roguelike freaks that have a soft spot for turn-based tactical match 3 gameplay. The intro tutorial explains most of the mechanics well, while there could be more explanation given about the skills and items you will gather on your way through the castle’s rooms. You are just going to have to try them out, see what they are capable of, and remember them for your next runs. And I am positive there will be plenty of runs you will go through, as the game is pretty fun and very addictive.
